SCOTLAND CITY TRIPS

The 7 Cities of Scotland

When you think of city trips to Scotland, you quickly think of Edinburgh. Rightly so. Edinburgh is Scotland's capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In short, it is one of the most impressive and enchanting cities in the world. In addition to Edinburgh, Scotland has 6 cities full of character that are more than worth a short city trip. Think hip and welcoming Glasgow, Stirling where the past comes to life, prosperous Perth, the Granite City Aberdeen by the sea, Dundee known as UNESCO design city or Inverness; the capital of the Highlands.

The nice thing about a city trip to a Scottish city: because of its compactness, you also have an excellent opportunity to discover the beautiful landscapes of Scotland during a city trip. The DUKE is known in all cities and is looking forward to putting together the ideal city trip for you.

EDINBURGH

Edinburgh: the capital of Scotland and in my opinion the most beautiful city in the world. A city that everyone should visit at least once. Edinburgh, Scotland's cultural center, is the perfect city for a city break as it has everything to offer. A historic center with breathtaking buildings and great stories. Beautiful walking routes through the center, through the surrounding neighborhoods or to perfect vantage points over the entire city. Typical Scottish pubs and contemporary trendy restaurants. A city trip of 4 or 5 days is recommended to see as much of the city as possible. It is also the perfect base for a longer holiday. From Edinburgh you can make beautiful day trips to the Highlands, one of the Lochs, nature reserves or towards the borders.

GLASGOW

Glasgow: Scotland's largest city and also the economic center. Glasgow is known for its friendliness, where the citizens convey the atmosphere of the city and this can be felt in the city. A city trip to Glasgow is all about this vibe. Glasgow has a fantastic center with a good mix between history and the present. The River Clyde runs right through the city. The special trade history can still be clearly seen along the river. In addition to the interesting museums, a city trip to Glasgow is also perfect for discovering the nightlife, shopping or a trip to the largest lake in the United Kingdom: Loch Lomond.

STIRLING

Stirling: the historic heart of Scotland. Whoever used to control Stirling had control over Scotland. During a city trip to Stirling you dive into this history with a visit to Stirling Castle, the old city wall, the Wallace Monument and learn where the passion of the Scots comes from. From Stirling you make a nice day trip to the Trossachs and Loch Lomond National Park, which makes Stirling an ideal city for a city trip, including nature experience.

DUNDEE

Dundee: City of Discovery. Traditionally this refers to the ship Discovery, which is still in Dundee harbor. Today, Dundee is better known as the design capital, for its many contemporary art galleries and the V&A museum, Scotland's design museum. For golf enthusiasts, Dundee is a good base as it is perfectly located between St. Andrews and Carnoustie. Because of Dundee's location, you can also easily reach the most beautiful castles and nature reserves, such as Glamis Castle and Broughty Castle.

PERTH

Perth: the gateway to the Highlands. Perth is known as Scotland's old capital, which is still visible in the many elegant buildings and Georgian town halls. Nestled on the banks of the River Tay, this bustling town is more than worth a visit and is perfectly located for day trips to the Highlands. Both the Trossachs National Park and the Cairngorms National Park are just steps away.

ABERDEEN

Aberdeen: the granite city. The buildings in the center of Aberdeen are made of granite and this gives a very special image to the city. All points of interest are around Union Street. Due to this compactness, Aberdeen is very easy to do on foot. The castles route and the Malt Whiskey route are easy to visit from here. There are more than 260 castles throughout Aberdeenshire, including the breathtaking Dunnottar Castle and the Scottish home of the British Royals, Balmoral Castle.

INVERNESS

Inverness: the capital of the Highlands and the most northerly city in the United Kingdom. Because of its rugged history, not much of the old city is visible anymore. However, Inverness offers great walking routes through the city past Inverness Castle and the River Ness. Inverness is of course better known as the setting for all of the historic Highland treasures. From the battlefields of Culloden, picturesque villages, the lake with the legend of the Loch Ness monster to the North Coast 500 Route to the most appealing whiskey distilleries and golf courses, Inverness has it all around the corner.
